Like many CTs' we have far more women who want to act than men although most plays have more roles for men. We want to present a night of short (10 to 30 minute) scenes with high conflict themes casting only women. We are looking for public domain or royalty free plays.
Any ideas? Doug |

Good luck with that. It's rare that you will find all female cast plays in either the public domain or royalty free that are of the kind of quality that you're seeking. You essentially get what you pay for.

I agree that you get what you pay for but I'm looking for scenes from the classics and not so classic. I already have a scene from Moliere's Misanthrope and the are probably some Shakespeare scenes too. There is a great scene in Noel Coward's Fallen Angels but it isn't in the public domain yet.

Ooh--Helena vs. Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Perfect fight scene--you can probably cut it in such a way as to cut out the men as well.

Ah....then I misunderstood. Thought you were looking for entire scripts. That's what I get for not "listening." You're correct, there should be plenty from Shakespeare & Moliere. You might want to look at a few of the Greek tragedies as well. |

Why not do a small interlude, to cover a scene change. Like the 'Cats Chorus' by Rossini?
All they have to sing is "MeeeooooW!
I think it would be in the 'PD' arena by now?

There's a scene between Electra and her mother, Clytemnestra, in Electra. I'm thinking the Aeschylus version. Electra attacks her mother for killing her father, re-marrying, and forcing Electra to live in poverty. It's fantastic.

By the way... I hope you don't actually call your festival "Catfight Night..." The term "catfight" is rather demeaning to women, in my opinion. I hope you find a better name. |
