Like many CTs' we have far more women who want to act than men although most plays have more roles for men.   We want to present a night of short (10 to 30 minute) scenes with high conflict themes casting only women.  We are looking for public domain or royalty free plays.

Any ideas?

Good luck with that.   It's rare that you will find all female cast plays in either the public domain or royalty free that are of the kind of quality that you're seeking.  You essentially get what you pay for.

I agree that you get what you pay for but I'm looking for scenes from the classics and not so classic.  I already have a scene from Moliere's Misanthrope and the are probably some Shakespeare scenes too.  There is a great scene in Noel Coward's Fallen Angels but it isn't in the public domain yet.

Ooh--Helena vs. Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Perfect fight scene--you can probably cut it in such a way as to cut out the men as well.

Ah....then I misunderstood.  Thought you were looking for entire scripts.  That's what I get for not "listening."    You're correct, there should be plenty  from Shakespeare & Moliere.   You might want to look at a few of the Greek tragedies as well.

Why not do a small interlude, to cover a scene change. Like the 'Cats Chorus' by Rossini?
All they have to sing is "MeeeooooW!Wink
I think it would be in the 'PD' arena by now?

There's a scene between Electra and her mother, Clytemnestra, in Electra. I'm thinking the Aeschylus version. Electra attacks her mother for killing her father, re-marrying, and forcing Electra to live in poverty. It's fantastic.

By the way... I hope you don't actually call your festival "Catfight Night..." The term "catfight" is rather demeaning to women, in my opinion. I hope you find a better name.

Lysistrata has a great scene where the title role is trying to talk her three friends into withholding sex as a way to convince the men to stop their war.  You'll have to pick and choose through translations, but their are several good ones out there, some funnier than others.

And, for the record, I like the name cat fight night.  I dont find it demeaning.  And it's likely to be intriguing enough to draw a crowd.  Not to say their might not be better titles out there...but I like the immediate connotation that this one gives.

'wots 'd'meaning' of the title?Confused - Bloke cats are 'male felines' anyway? So in that regard it could be cross gender. Which could throw up another angle & not restrict the show to just the Sheila's Wink

As a woman, I don't find it offensive, I think it's a rather cleaver title.  Cats fight dirty, and so do us women and I happen to like felines and admire many of their characteristics such as their grace, their aloofness, and the way they always seem to know exactly what is going on.  When you look at the actual qualities of a cat, why would any woman find it demeaning?
