Our group is named after the town that is our home. Unfortunately we are a very frugal community, and haven't built a new theater since the 50s. It isn't the worst venue I've ever seen, but compared to the centers for performing arts that most of the surrounding communities.

 

There is a lot of interest in moving our shows to one of these newer venues, but there are a few reasons that I, as facilities director, have resisted. For one thing, it would be confusing to have a group named after a town that we don't do shows in. Perhaps a bigger deal is that the town gives us full use of 2 classrooms and a gymatorium to store our stuff and to use for building our sets. I fear that moving our shows would reduce their motivation to let us use the space.

 

The point being that I would hesitate to name a group after a town, but it might be a fine idea for a building. One of our local groups is called "theatre to go" and they use a container of Chinese food as their logo. I think that is one of the best names I've ever heard for a theatre group.
