After two years away from the stage, I realize that I miss it terribly. I really need to find a good community theater group in my area; what would be a good way to go about finding out information on them?

This will only give you member companies, but you could go to http://www.aact.org - www.aact.org -- there will be community theatre companies listed in the members directory. Maybe one near you. Or do a google search for community theatres in your state. It will turn something up... If you can't find one, be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid...start your own! Good luck!
