Hi,what a treasure I've found! Our community theatre is doing "Annie get your gun"this season and instead of being in it this time, I will try my hand at directing.I could do with some advice on character building for the croud scene people who don't have anything to do but fix their hair.
I found the advice to Susan's "Student director"queery very helpful.
Thanks a bunch.
Maureen

Hi Maureen,

Good for you for feeling that Chorus is not a component of a play that gets tossed aside. This “atmosphere” can go far to enrich the whole production. Contact me at my e-mail address -- FiatLux@email.com and I will be happy to e-mail you a character development worksheet that I use. If you cannot open MS Word files, you will need to provide me with your snail-mail address and I'll send it via US Mail if you want it.

Fait Lux!

At the very least, ask each of the people in these scenes to decide on "who" they are. The script probably doesn't tell you anything about these background characters, so let the actors make up thier own character that works within the context of the show. You can then take a little time to have each person tell everyone else about thier character, this will also help each actor know how to react to the other actors around them.
