How do I gently, properly ask an actor to remove his nipple rings?  He's wearing a tight shirt, and I can see them.  I've asked all actors to please remove their jewelry and they have, except in this case.  Any advice?

First thing I'd do is announce, "I want to remind everyone to remove all jewelry, including body jewelry like earrings, nipple rings, lip piercings..."  I'd even do the last bit with a chuckle to take the pressure off.

If that doesn't work, I'd cut to the chase and go tell the actor that I could see his nipple ring through his costume and it's distracting.

Heck, why not just ask him to remove them?? Theatre is no place to beat around the bush. Being up front is the best way, as a director you will get a lot more respect if your comments are direct and to the point.     keith

I think a wire cutter should get his attention.  But seriously be up front and tell him that they need to be remove for performances and dress rehearsals.
