This spring I will be helping to tech a production of Almost Main, which calls for an aurora borealis lighting effect to be used both in one of the scenes, and to bookend them / cover the large number of set changes throughout the show.  I have been racking my brain for ideas but have not come up with anything truly satisfying.  I know most productions have the aurora appear on their cyc, which I'm ok with, but I also feel like putting it in line with or in front of the proscenium (white scrim? projecting on fog?) would be nice since we could then be set changing behind it.

Thanks for any ideas.

I don't think a scrim in the front is the best idea.  At one point you need to have the Aurora Borealis appear with the actors in front of it, don't you? You really don't need much of a set for this show so you shouldn't need much time for changing.  Just my first thought.

It's a great show and you should do well with it.  Definitely spring for the CD that goes with it, it's worth it.

This is a late response....sorry...(didn't check the blog for a while)....

You can front or rear project on the scrim (if its Chameleon scrim).
