Scenes that take place inside a theater or onstage always throw me.  I've just never found an easy way to show that you are actually "onstage" of a different stage.

My immediate thoughts always go to having a set of red velour "legs" that track in to look like an open house curtain.  But I don't have the budget or the room to make that happen.  I also need something that moves quickly on and off stage as the show moves from location to location quickly (thank you, Disney).

Stumped. Looking for ideas...

The last show I did I had a sign that said "Theatre"

This would only work in limited scenarios, but I recently went to see the Broadway in Chicago production of Billy Eliot, and for the audition scene where billy is supposed to be on a stage they flew in a baton with lights on it as if tech people had been setting it up and not bothered to fly it out, with that one set piece they perfectly created the image of a stage being set up.

To follow on from the above post, just fly out the borders & legs. Rather than reset LX battens &/or attempt to bounce focus later.
