I was just recently speaking to a former director of mine and she was complaining about a cast member she has in her show. Would it be considered "bad form" to offer my services as an actor, in case she's looking to drop this person from the show entirely?

I wouldn't think it would be 'bad form' to tell her you're available if needed. It might be less than ethical if you ENCOURAGE her to use you as a replacement. That is the director's decision, and she has more than just the problem actor to take into consideration. It has to be her decision.

I agree with Spectrum.
How would you feel if you were the 'problem Actor'?
Especialy if the perceived problems may lie with director or caused by other circumstances your not privy too.
By all means lend her your lugs & offer support to her as a listener or sounding board to bounce the problems off. But sing dumb in the wings & await her casting call!
