I'm drawing a blank on set ideas for this show.  I want a simple unit set with very few platforms.  That changes quickly and easily by the cast.  Also I'd love to be as cheap as possible!  Thanks for the help!

You should strongly consider a scrim (one that can do projections and shadow screens well).  With a scrim you could do front or rear projections, instantly turning the set to Nocturno.  You could also do shadow screens for aspects of Iris' journey.  Keep in mind that with shadow screens you can have a silhouette in a background.  So people can be silhouetted against a sky with clouds where the sun rises and sets. You could also reveal scenes behind the scrim.

The theater scrim people

I would LOVE to do a scrim...so many cool effects could be done with that in this show.  Unfortunately we are in an awkwardly shaped cafeteria with virtually no budget, so a scrim is out of the question.

I have a general idea of what I want.  Since I have no money, I'm creating this design by modifying a previous set we build for the space.  It is a mostly symmetrical set which looks nice, but I keep running into a HUGE problem.  Where to put the table and chairs for the memory parts.

I want to use the real life table and chairs for Iris' memory (not a corny miniture hung above the stage like the script says).  I saw a production of this show where they had tulle like fabric come down over the table and chairs after her coat was taken.  It worked a lot like a scrim.

I need some ideas!  I'm drawing a blank!
