Hey, my first post but i'm keen to get started, and its with a question concerning a piece i've been asked to do as extra on top of my studies.

I'm sure most people, and any Christian will be aware of the biblical (old testament) Visions of prophet Ezekiel (in particular the valley of dry bones). I have been asked to be inspired by these to create a contemporary performance and am struggling for competitive ideas. The piece cannot be as close as an animation of the stories, however cannot be as far away from the tales to call them stimuli.

Any one with any suggestions please reply ASAP

Thanks in advance, Gabe Manthorp

First, welcome to the forums! Hope you find inspirations and camaraderie as you continue your journey here.

Second,
"cannot be...an animation of the stories, however cannot be as far...to call them stimuli." doesn't leave a lot of options.

While most of the posters here generally deal with published scripts, there are a few script sources and playwrights that hopefully will be of help to you.

Meanwhile, I've checked my sources and find work concerning Ezekiel to be scarce and the only ones I've found probably not to your needs.

However, from the essence of his prophecies, it seems there is a treasure trove of connections to modern dilemmas, both of the spiritual and real world kind as well as historic occurences.

Do you have any thoughts on your piece that we can build on?

Gabe can you speak Engish to the rest of us?   Theater by it's very nature is stimuli.   Are you saying that you don't want the strories to be dramatic representations and that they shouldn't do what?  Stimulate thought, discussion....something else?   You have confused me my friend.

Ok, sounds like my explanation wasn't quite clear enough haha, sorry! I was talking in rather basic terms. Although the piece cannot be a direct portrayal of the "Visions of Ezekiel" as stories, the visions must be evident in the piece. Hard to explain, but I have been commissioned to direct an all boys piece connected to the visions without being too close or far away from the original tales. Any better? cheers!

Questions:

Should this piece be created by you or can it be something already published?
How many cast members?  Straight play or musical?
What is the time limitation?
"Commissioned" means what - hired, assigned, asked?

The only Ezekiel themed play I could find is this one
(was going to await your answer, but a link might save time)

could just do with an idea for a piece i am to create.
Straight play, possibly a bit of contemporary dance, 5 male cast members
not a long piece at all, half an hour?
commissioned means asked by a school

Cheers!

One possible scenario is to incorporate the story
into a modern newscast.  You could have one or two
anchors detailing a "Special Report" on the prophet
who is creating concern amongst the populace.

Others could be Ezekiel himself, reporters in the field,
witnesses to his teachings pro or con, concerned
government officials, etc.
