Help,

I'm looking for a full length play and I have a lot of "requirements".

  • Comedy
  • Full Length
  • More Girls than Guys (doesn't have to be a girl lead.)
  • Gender Neutral/ Flexible Cast
  • Perferably something well known (could be a book adaptation or something along those lines.)
  • For CATHOLIC High School Performers

Please help me out, I feel like I'm looking in all the right places, but not finding what I want.  I am looking at "Around the World in 80 Days" by Mark Brown.  Fun show, but not totally sold on it yet.  I feel like there is other things out there.  I'm lost!

How many performers are you looking for?

I'm sure you've already considered All in the Timing and A Midsummer Night's Dream. (I know, All  in the Timing is a collection of one-acts). There's your old warhorses (Arsenic and Old Lace, You Can't Take it With You, the Odd Couple (female version), Rumors, and Noises Off)

I hear this is very cool: chemical imabalance: a jekyll and hyde play - might be inappropriate for your audience, but it's been done in high schools:

for a smaller cast, try Kimberly Akimbo

From my own oevre, I'd suggest The Craving (just done at a Catholic school) - 10 females, 8 males, with some flexibility

Here's the blurb from playscripts:

"Screenwriter Terry Kyle Morris has just written his first screenplay, a heartwarming emotional journey. His dreams are answered when a big Hollywood studio decides to produce it, but the dream turns into a nightmare as they transform his beautiful script into a zombie slasher flick."

Read it online here for free:

And I have a new play, Chemical Bonding, (14 females, 11 males, coming 2010 from Playscripts) -

here's the blurb:

"A heartfelt and hilarious comedic drama about a girl coming to grips with life the summer after graduating near the top of her class. Pressured into taking the worst summer job imaginable, third-shift at a chemical solvents factory, Dani must navigate life, love, illness, facebook, and insane relatives to somehow make her way to college."

Read the first 15 pages here:

I can send you the rest of the play if you're interested.

We're looking for around 6-12 speaking parts.  Could be more if we can double up characters.  We looked at "Arsenic", just did "Can't Take It" and don't have the budget for "Noises Off".  "Midsummer" is a little hard to convice a bunch of high schoolers who do theater for fun to audition for.  I haven't looked a "Rumors" or "Odd Couple".  I'll take a look at these scripts your suggested.

Thanks!

Caddie Woodlawn, adaptable with either a huge cast or lots of doubling.
