So, we're doing a production of "Doubt" which, as you may know, is only four people - two nuns, one priest, and a student's mother.

We're looking for costumes for the nuns and priest - and we'd like for them to be authentic... in other words, we're not interested in using the leftover costumes from "Nunsense" a couple of years ago :)

As for the nuns, we're looking for the "bonnet" style headwear, much like the ones worn in the movie, as opposed to a more traditional veil - it's accurate, as far as I can tell - the sisters of charity would have worn bonnets at that time.

The larger, and probably more expensive, concern, are the priest's vestments - the script called for two sets, but we're going to use one, but we'd like it to look authentic.  I think we can get away with a choir cassock rather than an alb, with a separate collar and a chausuble.  The trouble is obtaining all these pieces on a budget - I'm fairly certain we won't be able to borrow vestments from a church.  We could look into renting, but we usually find that's not really as economical as it seems, unless it's for something truly elaborate.

We don't mind if the vestments are simple, as long as they're accurate and not "costume-ish." Any ideas?  Anyone done this show (or something similar like Mass Appeal)?  Where'd you get your habits and/or vestments?

Have you asked a church?

We borrowed our costumes for "The Runner Stumbles" from a church - they were very cooperative and helpful.
