Wondering if other Community Theatres pay honorariums to certain members of their crew - directors, assistant directors, musical director, vocal director and rehearsal accompanist. If so, are you willing to share the amounts or ranges you typically pay out? Our theatre is trying to determine what is fair.

Obviously it's going to be what the "market" dictates for your locale and situation. It can be all over the board with some crew getting an honorarium and others not.

I work primarily with two different CTs. One has a professional staff, so the costumer, tech director, etc. are already in place. An outside director may get $1,200. Not being a music director or accompanist I don't know what they make.

In the other place the hired director also is essentially the producer and is responsible for recruiting the rest of the staff. A typical honorarium for the director is $1,000 and then has another $1,000 for honorariums for a straight play and perhaps up to $3,000 for a musical. The director/producer decides how to split it up.

BTW - in my area the music director, vocal director, and conductor is one person. Often that person is also the accompanist. That person probably gets $1,000 (same as the director).

Depending on the show/effort/complexity: a choreographer may get $100 - $500; Stage Manager - $300 - $500; Lead Builder - $200 - $500; Costumer $100 - $300; Lighting - $100 - $300; Sound $0 - $200
