I would like feedback for doing Wizard of Oz as a straight play. I see many straight scripts out there. I have 30 kids in MS drama and am looking for a straight play to do (where I can cast all kids). Wizard has many parts. But, I wonder if it would not come off well b/c the audience is so tied to the story with singing.

Any comments?

I think there'd probably be disappointment and confusion if it wasn't a musical.

I did it as a straight play in third grade and in seventh grade, playing the Lion and Scarecrow. It works. The story and characters created by Frank Baum are strong enough to make the transition to stage without being a "musical". That being said, you could certainly incorporate music for the scene transitions or have supplemental background music at points during the show.
