What is the most fun, unusual seating you have seen or heard about in a theater. We do not have many folks that know what "black box" or intimate theater is here, so we are hoping to bring in a culture that helps the intimate design not be so intimidating.
I'm looking for portable seating and can't find anything that sounds fun that isn't overwhelmingly expensive. We thought about patio chairs (our theatre name is the bubbler theatre).
Just curious if you've seen any cool ideas.

Over the years, Sol Theatre Project in Ft. Lauderdale had a number of sofas, loveseats, etc donated to the theatre. These they used for seating in their theatre. Not portable, but certainly unusual.

one of the most interesting and fun seating arrangement I've ever seen was for a production of "Noises Off."
The audience sat in folding chairs in front of the set for Act I - the during intermission, they picked up their chairs and moved them to the BACK of the set and watched the second act from there - then the process was repeated for the third act.
It was terrific - fun and interesting for the audience -and I'm sure a HUGE relief for the set designer who has a monster of a job with the set for that show.
