I need to build a stair unit that will be 4' Tall, 4' Wide, and 8' Long.  Thats the easy part.  It needs to move, and it needs to be enclosed on all sides.  I need to make sure that it won't move when my actors are on it.  I am thinking of some kind of weight sensitive mechanism that will allow it to raise up when nobody is on it, but will 'lock' down on the stage floor when someone is sitting/standing on it.  Has anyone ever built anything like this?< id="gwProxy" ="">< ="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" ="">

Hey there,

   New character on the block.

Just seen your question and I have a suggestion.   Industrial locking casters.   I know they will work if there isn't alot of heavy bouncing or dancing on the set piece.  When I designed the set "Trip to Bountiful"  the set pieces has to be reversed and be drawn together as one. (locking)  There was heavy traffic on both sides of the set and the Locking casters worked beautifully. I feel it might me more reassuring to see they are locked then to rely on weight to hold it down when applied. a quick miss step could move the piece before it could lock down.    Just a suggestion, hope it helps.
