I would really like to use a metal "roll up" door, like you might find at a loading dock or stoarge area.. Maybe even one with a chain fall opening mechanism. Of course, going out and buying one is not going to happen. and Having one drop in my lap isn't likely either. While I was scratching my head about how to make it happen, I thought, lets look for ideas... Got any? ------------- Marty W "Till next we trod the boards.." |

Perhaps you could contact local salvage or scrap yards to see if they had something like this they might be willing to loan you in return for advertisement space.

Not metal, but I used to make roll-up door bread boxes. I used series of slats with two canvas strips on the backside holding it together. Then the entire thing rode in a routed out channel on the box sides.
Maybe you could do something similar with 1 x 4s rather than slats? ------------- KEB |

Along the lines of the previous post, you could use the slats as KEB suggested and then rig it like an Oleo or Roll drop. Not metal, but cheaper and easier to construct. Try this article for how to make an Oleo http://www.studio-productions-inc.com/white_papers/wp_oleo_olio_rolldrop.html - http://www.studio-productions-inc.com/white_papers/wp_oleo_olio_rolldrop.html (the article directions were compiled from Greenroom sources and some internet research, because I kept getting questions from customers on how to solve no-fly space problems) Also building on what KEB suggested with the 1x4's you could drill through the 1x4 edges (so 4" drilled hole in each end) and string cable through that to substitute for fancy carpentry and if you wanted you could go to a tack shop to find the type of channel that horse doors are hung on to be the side track.
