Hey guys..... I was wondering if there was a guide or timeline for when press releases should be sent out prior to a production? Specifically, cast lists and dates..... Since we have moved the dates of our production, we already have our cast, but I don't want to sent the info out too soon, then it will get lost.

I think you need to check with each indivdual media. I think we need to be put on the calendar for the local TV talk show appearances a month in advance. The newspaper reporter wants an interview for an article about 2 weeks in advance but the community calendar wants a month. Radio spots are an ongoing effort for us. Many times we need to speak to each person with a show, sometimes a program director, sometimes the news director.

I don't think there is any set answer. Communicate with them early and often. Many times they need reminding.

I just recently got bumped off one of our TV promotions. We were scheduled, and I reminded the host several times and was always assured we were on. The the day before I got a call cancelling. He forgot about the Presidential Inaurguration and his show was cancelled for network coverage. Huh!? How can you forget about that and not be aware of that in advance!? Oh well! Local TV .... Be grateful for what you can get. :)
