Would love any ideas/suggestions for a workable, eye-popping "Beast to Prince" transformation for the ending of Beauty and the Beast.

A shadow screen transformation with some careful choreography can be very dramatic.  Alternatively, a projection of the transformation while the beast himself is recostumed can be good.  If you want it all to be conducted a-vista, you want the beast makeup to be confined to mask and hands.

So here's one take... Beast falls to ground behind a scrim.  Beauty reacts in grief centerstage in the audience's line of vision. Projection of the flower with the last petal falling on the scrim, while people gather round the beast.  (People are actually recostuming beast, while hiding him).  Sad music then transitions to miracle occuring music.  While that music is playing the projection on the scrim changes to be psychodelic swirls or falling stars or something that indicates momentous change. Choreography can even involve lifting the body of the beast overhead, allowing the costume to be removed. Body language of people changes from mourning to surprise and shock.  They whisper and talk as they draw back revealing the Beast-now-Prince who awakes to himself.

Or something like that.  In the vision above, Beast and people can be behind the scrim in sihouette, or behind in a reveal, or even in front of the scrim, only hidden by the people.  If behind the scrim in a reveal, if the scrim is diffusive, the scene will appear dreamlike.

Best Beast outfit would be rip-away overcoat, padded for his size and big enough to cover the Prince's identical costume, with a mask for the beast, and hairy hand gloves for the beast.

Thanks....but we don't have a scrim in our theater, and it is too late to get one for this production.  Any ideas re: modifying your idea without one?

Most of the effect could be achieved without a scrim, minus the projection.  The tear away costume, the people in silhoutte.

Beast falls to ground behind a scrim.  Light comes up and spotlights the flower with the last petal falling, while people gather round the beast upstage.  (People are actually recostuming beast, while hiding him).  Sad music then transitions to miracle occuring music.  While that music is playing the light on the stage changes to psychodelic swirls or falling stars or something that indicates momentous change. Choreography can even involve lifting the body of the beast overhead, allowing the costume to be removed. Body language of people changes from mourning to surprise and shock.  They whisper and talk as they draw back revealing the Beast-now-Prince who awakes to himself.

Or if you want to go back to a scrim, its not too late.  Even overnight that can happen.  Rentals of 15' h x 30' scrim is $ 195 for two weeks plus shipping.  Several colors are available.  White, Lavendar, Medium Gray, Pearl Gray, Sky Blue.  Other sizes too.  Write me if you want to check availability.

Consider using a fog curtain to mask an actor change - one in the beast costume, and one in the price costume.   In our case this worked well because the staging included a tower that rotated from the bedroom where the rose was to a balcony.   After being stabbed on the balcony, the beast falls through the door to the bedroom and Bell enters.    While he is falling through and switching with the other actor, the tower rotates to the bedroom scene and a fog pipe around the base of the bedroom begins pumping out a large fog curtain.   He then rises out of the fog as a prince.

Our HS production used two actors.  The difference in height and build was noticeable.  It was double cast, so they took turns being the Beast and the Prince.  It would make more sense if the slighter of the two were the Prince, if there is a big difference in build.  Or maybe the Beast costume would bulk up the slighter one enough that they would match better.  I think they fogged that scene.
