Anyone know how to hook up a telephone so that it rings?  I'd like to hook it up so that it stops ringing when the actor answers it -- just like real.

So I guess I'm asking: What wires need to be connected and what kind of power source is needed?

Here is a REALLY good way to do it.  The TRG-10K Programmable Telephone Ringer.  ...Of course, I may be a little prejudiced.  We manufacture and sell this system online and we have priced it so schools and community theatres can afford it, lower than most everybody else, in spite of the fact that it does more than most ringers available.  We have sold these for around three years now and NEVER had a problem or complaint.  Check it out at:

If we can help you, please let us know.  And good luck with whatever you do.

I'll second the recommendation of getting a telephone ringer box, it's just the best way to ring a phone on stage. Since it rings the bell in the phone the sound comes from the right place (unlike using a sound effect), the phone will sound like it's supposed to and it will cut off as soon as someone picks up the phone.

I have never used the product in the previous posting but the price seems reasonable.
