Hello, I am new to the site but have a major discussion amongst my board of trustees. We are a community theater guild with no house, so we rent venues for performances. We have just been asked by one of these venues to consider being the in house performing arts company. I am looking for some input on this. Who has gone down this road before, experiences, resources, pros and cons. Any help would be of benefit. The subcommittee will be meeting shortly. We hope to have a response to the venue in January. Thanks, RR

It seems to me there could be many benefits of that happening. You wouldn't have to pay rent, you would have a permanent place for all of your props, flats, etc. Do they have room to accomodate your set construction? Is the facility large enough for what your CT offers in shows, ie: seating, pricing, etc. Would you remain a seperate entty financially? or would you combine your assets to be a single non profit? I guess these are all questions that I'd want answered before making a decision. However, if you feel it would behoove your group to merge with them, what have you got to lose? Is your group profitable and have you many assets? Do you remain within budget restraints for shows? I guess the toughest thing is merging the money. What do they have? are they profitable? WOuld it benefit both of you to merge? I probably threw more questions at you then I answered them, but dialogue always wins. Good Luck.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. These are the same questions we have as a board to contend with. Yes, remaining our own entity is an integrity we would not allow to be lost in the merger. We also feel as though we want our relationship to have some teeth. We want to feel as though we would have a key to the front door metaphorically and actually speaking. I suspect there is not a trail blazed before us for our board to review and set in motion. Most likely we will do like many of us have done before, the ole bump and grind method, but have fun going down this 'Yellow brick road'. Thanks, Roge
