Hello Everyone-

I wanted to ask for suggestions. Our high school with be including a large section for plays and theatre reference books in our new library. We all ready have all our Shakespeare selected. While out theatre-tech teacher will take care of the reference books, myself and another teach will be choosing the plays and musicals. I was wondering if you could give me suggestions of plays, suitable for high schoolers, to include in our drama/comedy section. Any suggestions will be most welcomed.

Thanks,
Chuck

Wow, so much comes to mind. Some of the shows I remember studying in high school - Our Town, Of Mice and Men, Odd Couple (And other Neil Simon stuff,) Tartuffe (and other Moliere), You Can't Take it With You, I Hate Hamlet, the "Complete Works series", All in the Timing (David Ives), Beyond Therapy and other Christopher Durang stuff... I could probably go on and on... but this is a start.

There's a little bit of diva in all of us. Some just have a larger helping than others.

For a beginning collection, you might consider anthologies, rather than individual scripts. Collections of 20th century masters such as Tennessee Williams, Ibsen, Chekhov, O'Neill, Lanford Wilson, Arthur Miller, William Inge, Thorton Wilder, Sam Shepherd, Neil Simon, Durang, etc. You can get a lot of plays by one author in one anthology! Also, for high school students, collections of one act plays are always good.
