Hi-
Don't know where you are located, but we rented a GREAT car from Ohlone College (south bay (SF area) for about $300.  It was a show stopper when we brought it out on stage.....

Renting a car would be much easier and you don't have to figure out what to do with it when the show is over.  Check this out...

We modified a golf cart, repainted it.  We have it for rent if you are near Chicagoland?

I have designed this show twice, one using a real hot rod, but the best one was just utilising rostra, leaving it up to the punters imagination.

Hi..thanks for your reply...could you elaborate a bit?? Do you mean rostra as in plural of rostrum...and punters...does that mean audience??

Sorry if I am dense, but would like to understand what you meant.

Thanks,
Sue

Yes & Yes!
The rostra was used to depict other areas, scenes & utilised by the cast to depict the car's, school & bedroom etc.
All the mise en scene [set, costumes, props & lighting] colours were of a cartoon palette of primary colours. {R, Y, B. [augmented with  Black, white & pink]}.

We did Grease in 2006 and found an old car rotting in a field. Had it towed out of the field, cut in half and put the back on casters and the front had tires, made two wooden bench seats and pushed it half way on stage. It looked great! I also had a lot of time donated by the local garage to do the welding, cutting, and basic disassemble and reassembling of this car.
Good luck, be creative and ask for help, you never know when one question can lead to a abulous answer. aka the car we used.

Tongue We bought the pink foam insulation from the hardware store, glued it together and carved it to make the front of the car.
