Hi again,  It's me from "New to auditions" post.  I'm still searching for the right song for my 12 yr. old daughter to sing for an audition of "Babes in Toyland".  This is her 1st audition.  We have a song picked out that she sang in her schools program in the spring but it was on a CD and according to the music store it's out of print. So.....we have to have a backup.    I want you guy's honest opinion.  If you were the director what would you think if a new kid auditioned with the song "The sun will come out tomorrow " from Annie.  Would you think - How dorkie. Where's her red wig. Or, would you overlook the song and just listen to her voice and how she sings the notes.
Any help is greatly appreciated.                Abby

{My Opinion}  I think that is an excelent choice, assuming she can sing it.. and sell it...  Costumes, wigs etc.. not required and can be a real detriment.. Make sure she knows it cold.

The costume, wig, etc. is totally unnecessary.

The thing to think about is whether the voice type that usually sings "Annie" songs is right for the music in "Babes in Toyland." If it is, then go for it! Good luck to her!

Perhaps not for this time, but you might have her look at "The Girl I Mean to Be" from THE SECRET GARDEN.

I don't know the music from Babes in Toyland, but generally you want to sing a song that approximates the song you want to sing in the show - same range, tempo, attitude, mood, etc.

In addition to singing the notes correctly the director will be looking for stage presence and confidence.

The only potentially bad thing with Annie is that there may be a dozen other girls singing it.  That's good if she is one of the best, not so good if she isn't.
