I was wondering if anyone had a template for a letter of invitation to join the board of directors?

I have done a search for stuff online, and all the good stuff is on the 'pay for me' sites.

I may be wrong on this, but it seems to me that the letter is one of the final steps and probably isn't too important. A potential board member shouldn't be receiving a "cold call" letter. Potential board members should be educated and then courted. A good relationship should exsist, they should know what you're trying to do and be supportive.

The potential board member should, IMHO, be asked in person .... or better yet, lead in such a way that they ask you. At any rate, "the ask" should be no surprize to them.

The letter should pretty much be a formality at the end of that process. IMHO.
