Next spring, my CT will be doing our annual play and I think it needs to be a fun, well known comedy that will be able to fill the seats.

Shows i've thought about are:

Cheaper by the dozen
Bleacher Bums
The Odd Couple (female version)

Are there any other suggestions that people have? and what amongst these three would be the bes? Since we are located in the chicagoland area, i figured bleacher bums would be perfect, but any other suggestions would be great.

If you're going to do the Odd Couple I'd say do the male version. I don't think the female version translates very well. Th funny premise in the original is Felix behaving like a housewife in the relationship.

If yer gonna do The Odd Couple, do Oscar And Felix... The original has NOT aged well.

No Sex Please We're British is the most successful sex farce in the world... You have to work pretty hard to NOT make a bucket of $$ off it.

Boeing Boeing held that title before No Sex came along... It's also a money-maker!

Am less than 2 weeks from opening night for The Odd Couple at our HS. Even with a shortened rehearsal schedule, this cast and this show rocks! My gals have really found their characters and are having a ball and of course that shows in every scene.

It's a can't miss comedy in my opinion!

I am directing The Odd Couple for the second time for our CT. I did it ten years ago also. If you have the right chemistry between  Oscar and Felix and also with the two sisters, this show can't be beat. Let us know how you did.  Break a leg! Thumbs%20Up

I'm doing the female version...so it's Olive instead of Oscar and Florence that drives her batty! Actually, this cast of young women have captured the essence of the show quite well. They range from 14 to 18 years of age and have taken to Simon's comedy like fish to water!

If you have never read the female version, please do so as it is a hoot!

This is only our second year with a theater program Last year we had four shows on tap, this year we have upped the ante and are doing five!

You have quite a productive schedule. Our group is a CT with 34 years under our belts. We do 3 regular productions and try to have a Christmas show every year. I looked at the female version but decided that the original was too good not to do again. Most H.S. programs feature much larger casts. What other plays do you have lined up?

The Odd Couple (feamle version)

The Tale of Snow White

Christmas Carol

The Trial of the Big Bad Wolf

You're a Good Man Charlie Brown

I chose the female version because of I have so many outstanding female actresses at present, but a real lack of any guys. I have no problem with casting a girl in a guys role; did it last spring in Godspell where both my Jesus and my John/Judas were gals. But to cast an entire show??? Nah...better to just give them something they could really bite into; and they have!

That's usually the way if goes, more gals than guys. We survive with a small core of men and definitely more women. The numbers and faces change but the ratio is fairly constant. It seems that girls, (women) can play men but men playing women is instantly melodrama. This has provided some of the best humor we have staged though. It sounds like you have a super season in front of you.
