Hi, I'm going to be directing this show and Sir Simon is supposed to go through the wall on several occasions.  I'm still very new at this and I have a few ideas but suggestions would be great and very appreciated.

I designed a set with a secret entrance for a ghost several years back (Blithe Spirit, I think).  The way I worked it was to have the stage right wall angled from the upstage wall.  Along the stage right wall was a fireplace that was actually parallel to the rest of the wall with a 14" opening.  The audience couldn't tell that there was an opening.

You can also do this with Chameleon scrim hung in panels.  The scrim can either be painted, printed or projected with wall paper if you want.  The trick is to have a gap between the panels. ..one slightly downstage of the other.  Since Chameleon doesn't need a side seam and doesn't moire--with a clever lighting designer you can pull it off.

Thanks, I had similar ideas myself.  This is a new theater for me and we'll be starting set construction tomorrow.
