I have a "spruce-up" weekend coming thisSunday and next and I am conflicted on the choice of new colors for the mens and womens restrooms.

They are VERY small and shared by the cast/patrons - although at different times.

Currently the women's is white with a very obnoxous cyan for the restroom stalls. The men's has SOME wallpaper, and an equally obnoxious green for its one stall.

Again, not much room to play with, but I would like something to really say "wow, thats a good change"

I was thinking light purple for the women's, with a dark green borer/accents

and for the mens, more of a grey with a dark red border.

Any suggestions or photos of your restrooms at your theater are appreciated.

What a fascinating question - probably unique on this forum!!!

At my theatre, when we last painted the restrooms the person that did it was very unadventurous. All the walls in the 'ladies' got painted a light pink colour and deep red curtains were fitted, and the 'gents' received nice light blue walls with blue curtains. Both have a white ceiling and grey floor.

Our theatre is a converted 13th century barn and the restrooms are accessed from the auditorium (not very practical, but there's no other space available) through doors that look very similar and have a very small sign on them. So at least with these colours, you know immediately if you're in the wrong place!

our patron bathrooms are very pretty. They remind me of a home that's been decorated professionally and then no one uses the space. We have local artists that hang their work around the auditorium, a new artist featured for each show. Sometimes they have so much work to show the pictures trickle into one wall of the rest rooms. Makes for a nice touch.

We have plans to paint the cast/crew bathroom. It's not very functional considering the overflow of dressing room and make up application that occurs for the larger cast. It needs shelves. And will probably be green, since our "green room" for the actors is actually blue.

The best bathrooms I've seen are at Commonweal Theatre in Lanesboro, MN. For stall dividers, they've used old chalkboards.

If your bathroom space is limited, you could always use chalkboard paint and let the patrons decorate the bathrooms with messages, artwork, etc. while they're in there.

I've also seen bathrooms decorated to look like a star's dressing room ... lights around the mirror, bouquet of flowers on a small table, talc, playbills on the wall, etc. The colors were yellows and rose.
