Hello,

I know it varies depending on several factors, but can anyone give me a ballpark estimate on what the rights cost for Godspell?

Thank you,

Which company?  There are two companies that license GODSPELL - one is MTI, the other is Theatre Maximus.  (Theatre Maximus was the original licensor, & owns that great logo.)  You can go to either website & get an estimate based on your ticket prices, house size, & other factors.  I'm going to be directing GODSPELL in December - we're going with Theatre Maximus, they're GREAT to work with!

Are there any advantages in going with one or the other, or is it just that one company may be cheaper?

Theatre Maximus owns the original rights to GODSPELL, including that great logo - & it's the ONLY property they handle.  MTI has the revival rights, with the ugly "G-shield" logo Tongue.  Theatre Maximus is, IMHO, better to work with - they're great folks, willing to answer anything (they've even called me at work to answer questions I've sent!), & very accepting of groups making changes to update (that was one of the questions I'd asked).  MTI's score also has the usual MTI errors - I worked with a company that used it a couple of years back.  On the other hand, if you're a member of AACT, MTI is offering a pay-four-get-one-free on Stephen Schwartz shows, so that might be a consideration.
