As a fund raiser for my children's theater group, we usually do a Murder Mystery Dinner.

It serves two purposes - I get to use kids who are talented, but don't have large parts inthe Spring production, and I get a chance to work with a smaller cast and really develop their talent in a more one-on-one environment - without worrying about chorus numbers, vocals, etc.

Over the past two years, we have done Murder at the Banquet and Cafe Murder (both found at Pioneer Drama).  My problem is, that I am having a hard time finding new ones to tackle for this Fall.  I am looking at Dress Rehearsal for Murder (Pioneer Drama) and The Beauty Pageant (Joh Mann) or moving away formthe Comic ones and doing Wait Until Dark.

Does anyone out there have any other suggestions for one act, small cast, murder mystery shows?

Thanks...Mary

How young are the kids? If they're teenagers, I have a one-act adaptation of "Clue" the movie, titled "The Murderous Mansion of Mr. Uno." It requires a cast of 11 though, so it might be too large.

You can read it here:

click on "read sample" on the upper right-hand corner and you can read just about the entire thing on-line (the beauty of playscripts)

I have another one-act which is less of a murder mystery and more of a silly comedy, titled "Employees must wash hands... before Murder" which is a murder mystery set in a fast food restaurant. The cast is larger though, around 15-20 I think. You can read it here:

Hope that helps... Don.

I've seen a HS and a college production of "Wait Until Dark".  I did not think it was one act though.  It's a good show, the actress playing the blind gal has a pretty challenging role.  "Rehearsal for Murder" is another good one, but again I think it's two acts.
