Does anyone know how you 'draw' onto a scrim using a projection?  I've seen this done in two productions (Improbable's "Wolves in the Walls' and DV8's recent "To Be Straight With You'.  The actor makes the motion of drawing with a hand and the 'drawing' appears on the scrim. I was wondering if this is made live by a remote artist with a PC tablet connected to the projector or if its an animation paused between drawings.  Thanks anyway!

I think it would be cheaper to to have it animated. Then the actor can rehearse the moves and the operator can pause the animation where needed.

If you can dream it, I can make it happen

Yeah, using animation would definitely be FAR more reliable than finding an artist who can trace/follow the movements of an actor's hand on stage.

There are NO small roles, only small actors...

Thanks for this,  do you know what you might use to create and record the animated drawing?  Can the drawing process be recorded on a PC Tablet?
