| I hear that there's a version of Phantom but without the music, the version that Webber took and added music to. Is this true?? If so, I'd be interested in knowing where to get a script... any help? |

Check out this site it will give you the orginal author that it was adapted from - However I could not find on this datta base anything about it, except there are a heap of 'Phantoms' there under plays.

Lloyd Webber didn't simply add music to an existing piece to create his musical. He initially had the idea of adapting the story into a romantic musical after reading the original novel by Gaston Leroux (published in 1910). He had picked up an old copy of that book and was somewhat taken by the different aspects of the story. He and Cameron Macintosh then saw Ken Hill's musical, The Phantom of the Opera in 1984 and began talks of transferring it to the West End. When that deal fell through, Lloyd Webber began work on creating his own musical. Jack Sharkey has written a version of PHANTOM OF THE OPERA but there are musical numbers with it. Also, there is a play entitled "Climax" that was made into a movie in the 1940s with Susannah Foster and Claude Rains that is much like "Phantom ...." Music, too. I have no idea who owns the rights.
