I am searching for a good sound effect of a plane circling and then crashing. It needs to be long enough for a crowd of people to notice it, follow it with their eyes, comment on what is happening and watch it hit the ground

can anyone tell me where I might locate that kind of sound?

Try http://www.sounddogs.com/ - http://www.sounddogs.com/ You may have to put two sound effects together the circling plane and then the crash. Be specific, because they have lots to choose from. If you want a single engine plane use that or you'll get hundreds of hits.
