I am directing this play this coming spring and am interested in any input.  This is my first time directing.  I am kind of torn between setting it in the 60's or modern day...any thoughts?

Set it in the 60's.   It's very much of it's time.   It would almost be like setting the Odd Couple in present day.   Themes may be universal to almost all eras but there are situations that simply would not be plausable setting it contempory times, especially with the advent of the constant and instant communications that we have access to.

Definitely set it in the 60's.

Come Blow Your Horn was the first show that I ever directed, back in March of 2006.  I wanted to do it modern day, but after going through the script, there was just way too much that would have had to change.  So I went with the 60's.

Have fun with the show.  It's a good show, and a good project for the first-time director.

Not only is its situations firmly ensconced in the 60's, think of the additional humor you can get from a really fun period set and costume plot!

Thank you so much for the replies!  I am VERY exciting about my first show and I think it will be a hoot in the 60's too.

Thanks again!  I'll keep you posted.
