I'm currently putting together cabaret style performances to be performed every other month in addition to our season.  What I would like to do is have a theme for each one that I do so that I can 1) market it to our audience.  2) use it to expand our audience base.  3) Distinguish one from the other and give it a flare!

Does anybody have some FUN ideas?

Here are a couple that I have so far:

Comedy Tonight! - A night of musical comedy songs!

W-O-M-A-N -  Basically a "Diva" night.  Bringing together some of our leading ladies over the years.

Once Upon A Time - Music from fantasy based musicals

Broadway's Darkside - Music from the villains of the stage.

Anyway, that's a few... any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I need a lot of them.  THANKS!!!

GOLD'N MY EAR: Academy Award winnings songs.
RED, WHITE & BLUES: Patriotic Songs.
ONE HIT WONDERS: Songs by artists who've since disappeared.
LEFT OUT: Songs from Broadway musicals that were edited out of the film versions.
FABULOUS FLOPS: Songs from Broadway musicals that failed. (There's gotta be ONE decent song from each of them.)

Is cabaret usually music?  When we did "cabaret" we served pie... and the show was a bunch of skits.

Suggest a  group of "Inspirational" songs, if that is what cabaret is.

We've done Cole Porter, the Gershwins, & songs from crossover musicals (wish we'd waited a year on that one, now that SWEENEY's coming out on film).  We're contemplating a WWII cabaret for next year - the "Onstage Canteen" <g>.

There's a little bit of diva in all of us. Some just have a larger helping than others.

Cabaret can refer to many different types of entertainment in one show.  Here in the Americas it is widely known as a showcase for Jazz Vocalists and musical theatre selections, but there is no rule that states any limitations.  A cabaret is simply a variety show, originally performed in taprooms, nightclubs and restaurants.  The original word meant "small room."

Larger than life is just the right size.
