A word to the wise ... just a suggestion ... never, never, never schedule any kind of rehearsal or production at the opening of deer season!  (No, I shall never live this one down.)

I had a similar issue when I discovered a theater group would never rehearse on Tuesdays. Why? It was bowling night and nearly 2/3 of the group were enrolled in the league. Even tech week was no exception.

Heaven forbid!
We wouldn't want creativity to get in the way of gratuitous killing and woodland beer guzzling.

We did an interactive murder mystery the Saturday before Easter at CSU!  Bad planning.  We did manage to get some of the international students who live in on-campus housing to attend.

Ohio has a wonderful community theatre association which has its anual conference over Labor Day weekend.  A few years ago our theatre did not check the dates of our shows well and scheduled a play for that weekend.  We are in Northern Ohio and the conference that year was in southern Ohio.  The show we were performing at our state conference was Escanaba in da Moonlight (all about deer camp).  Unfortunately most of the cast of Escanaba was also in the current show.  We performed our show on Friday night in the north, drove three hours south arriving at the conference at 2:30 AM, slept till six (yes still having to pay full room price) performed at 9 and were back on the road north by lunch.

Theatre boards, please double check your scheduling dates.

Weren't you in charge of scheduleing that year?????  (just kidding)  I even tell our family members, "don't even schedule a wedding for conference weekend, cause I won't be there!"

Truth be told yes I was part of the scheduling mishap, which is why I have stepped out of that decision ever since.
