Has anyone produced Love Letters recently? What was your setting and how did your audience receive it? Thanks.

We've done it a couple of times. We did it very simply in a black box with two desks. Its a very well written piece so it usually is well received. (I find most of Gurney's work is very well received)

We did it a few years ago. We had one large desk with 2 chairs. We played it in front of the curtain on the apron. It was very well received. I was actually thinking of doing it again. I agree w/ Debflo. Gurney's work is wonderful. "Sylvia" is a particular favorite.

We did it as a dinner theatre, believe it or not.  I got to read the Andrew Makepeace Ladd part.  Small stage, two back to back desks with clutter appropriate for each character.  A couple of things our director did that I thought were very good:

a) We got up and moved a few times with character based actions, she watering plants, doodling with artwork; me fiddling with a pipe.

b) Those actions allowed the final bit which capped the performance.  I moved to sit against the side of the desk leaned on my hand, dangerously close to her "side" then as the last lines were read, she reached out her hand oh so close to mine, only to turn off her desk lamp and bring down the lights.

Ditto the marvelous Gurney material, as usual.

Another cool thing that can be done with Love Letters is to do a fundraiser performance using local celebrities or politicians. We did this a while back using the town's mayor and one of the comissioners. We charged a higher then usual ticket price and did a little wine and cheese type reception before the show.

We did this several years ago and had a grand total of 7 audience members over a 3 night run.  I was not involved in this production so I don't know the particulars.
