Hey everyone, I have stubbled upon your Board and I must say it's Awesome.  I have been involved in community theatre for about a year now.  I am 22 years old and will be graduating from college in one semester...hopefully leaving me with alot of free time.  I am wanting to direct a play in next years season, but to do that I have to find one first.  I was wondering what would be a good first play to directed (I have directed one act plays but never a full lenght) that is catchy for a college community.

I would start by looking at your needs first. How big a cast do you want? How much space do you have? can you do multiple sets, or do you need one stationary set? Comedy or Drama? Put a list together first, then start narrowing the field. A lot of publishers have play finders on their website that can be helpful once you know what you are looking for.

As Deb has mentioned, there are many great plays out there and many websites that can do a search for you.
Create a list of criteria you want.  Small cast, stationary set leaves the field wide open still.  You'll have many, many responses for shows.
You can look through the publishers and then read the synopsis.  If you find a few that you like, then ask here if anyone has done that show and what they think.  Maybe other similar shows can pop up during the conversation.
Also remember when looking at scripts that males are difficult to come by in theater, before casting make sure you can cast all the males needed for a show.

The two greatest days in a theater persons life, the day you start a new show and the day the damn thing closes.
