Does anyone know where I can get the music for Quilters?  I'm on a play selection committee and it's down to Quilters and one other show for our musical and I hate to select something without hearing the music.  I googled but didn't find anything.  Also, if you've done this show, please tell me how it went!

Thanks!!

I Stage managed Quilters a couple of years ago and I would direct the show (if given the chance) in a heartbeat.  Love love love it.  However the music is quite challenging and there is alot of it.  The prop list is quite large and can be challenging.  We got the local quilters Guild involved and they were able hel pua alot.  We also contacted our local community college and found they had some of the props and costumes we needed.  The gals have to be versatile and good singers.  As to recorded music as far as I know there is none.  I searched and searched.  The only option is look online and see if you can find a theater company who has produced it and ask them if they have a recording - video or otherwise you might borrow.  Recording is illegal, though so this can be a dicey subject to bring up.  Good luck.

There is no recording of "Quilters."

The orchestration is NOT easy (my favorite musical notation is the portion where the piano player plucks the strings inside the piano instead of the using the keys LOL).

You do need good singers - who can not only do solos, but be able to hold their own in harmony parts.

With all those warnings, LOL, it is a WONDERFUL play - and I heartily recommend it!

I haven't seen this show, only read the script and it's probably my own lack of imagination but I couldn't grasp how this thing would be staged.

Thanks for your responses.  I really wish there was a way to listen to the music, but I guess there isn't.  We will probably choose this show because we have already picked a few comedies for the season and we need to have one serious show.

If anyone else has anything to say about Quilters, I'd love to hear it.

This is the best I could do, this is on youtube.com but this is only one scene and it's not very good quality tape.  But you can hear the music.  They also have two other scenes as well.

This one is Quilters - Fire http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zC-hU3jDIb8 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zC-hU3jDIb8
Quilters - Four Doves in a Window http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QteIaxWHAoE&mode=related&search - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QteIaxWHAoE&mode=related&search =
Quilters - Sunbonnet Sue http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDo2j_wVp7s&mode=related&search - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDo2j_wVp7s&mode=related&search =

Hope this helps.

This is great!  You're right, the quality is a little rough but it really helped to see it staged, especially the "Fire" scene because I was trying to picture how it would go.  I never even thought of trying YouTube.  Silly me!

Update in case anyone was curious.  We did decide to do Quilters and we start rehearsals next week.  Best news?  I'm in the cast!

I'm singing "Little Babes" which I haven't heard yet.  I'll be singing parts in most of the songs and they may give me another solo, but because I know how to blend (darn all that choir experience) they want me for the harmony.

I'm practically playing every tragic character in the show, which is pretty funny when you consider I've only ever done comedy.  Go figure!
