Hi - I operate a community theatre and we have a caberat style seating. Small table with seating for two. Does anyone have any ideas for a cheap centerpiece? Something that can hold programs, comment cards and still have an "arts" type theme?

Tall order I know!!!!

Most cabarets that I have been to usually have flowers and/or candles in the center of the table.  But if you are looking for something that can hold paper (programs, comment cards, etc.)  How about buying napkin holders at the $1.00 store and then cutting out drama masks or other musical symbols from various materials (foam, vanyl, plastic) and glue to the sides.  You can also spray paint them various colors.
If I come up with other ideas, I'll post them.  Hope this helps.

you might also look in the bridal aisle of Michael's or similar places. They usually have inexpensive silver(colored) place card holders in a variety of shapes. They are mostly hearts and things but depending on the style of decor in the theater you may find something that will work for comment cards or small drink menus.

oooh, oooh, oooh, also it's possible that you could just go to a GFS or any restaurant supply place and get those clear plastic stand up things that hold a sheet of paper. You could decorate those however you liked.
