Hello all, we are soon launching a prodction of jack and the bean stalk. i have a beanstalk question. does any one have any suggestion for a suitable beanstalk material? it will be coiled up onstage and raised using a fly bar. the material needs to be thick enough to look realistic but not take up too much space or be too heavy. also we want the vine to grow out into the auditorium but not leave wires running all over the place....

any suggestions are greatly appreciated

What about the coiled dryer vent. The tubing that is about4-5 inched wide. It could lay in a coiled pile until you fly it. It is pretty light. It can be painted. You can add big leaves to it and it should "look" a realistic size to be able to climb.

For a production of Into the Woods we just used a 3/4-1" diameter rope painted green, and attached leaves we made with muslin.  We used fishing line to pull it up when the time came for it to rise.  Not sure if your looking to create a more substantial beanstalk, but this one certainly did the job well.
