If this isn't the dumbest concept I've ever seen.  I know they did one in Joseph, but thankfully the shows I've attended left them out.

High School Musical?  Why?

Are there an abundace of shows out there that use a mega mix that I just haven't become aware of?  Is this a trend?  Could this be the end of the world?  Confused

What is a "mega mix" in this sense??  I've never heard of this. I'd be interested to know what this means.

It's a repeat of every song in the gol-darnded show, in a thankfully shortened version, with much clapping and singing along and general revelry on the part of the audience and the cast.  Sort of an extended curtain call kind of thing.

I recently saw HMS and hated the mega mix finale. It was way too long and drawn out for a show that wasn't that impressive. I just wanted it to be over. My delemna now is, I am involved with doing the show as a high school workshop in June. Granted most of our audiance will be parents and grandparents who will gladly see their children "shine" a second time for bows, but really! Why did Disney do this?!? Hopefully the cast will be better and but I am seriously considering asking MTI if we can cut it back.

Whatever happened to the "leave 'em wanting more" theory of entertainment?

There's a megamix in Pinafore?  Man, Gilbert and Sullivan were ahead of their time!  LOL

(I know, I know, it's a typo for HSM.  I just can't resist being a jerk sometimes Clown.)

I can speak about the HS Musical megamix- we did the show in February.  It was an AMAZING sold out show for all performances (1100+ each show).  We waited until the last 2 weeks to decide whether to keep the megamix after the bows.  It was so long that by the end they energy would be lacking- but we did keep it and amazingly people LOVED it. We had people up and dancing.
We used the megamix for promotions also- radio, parades, community events also- a nice sampling of the show.

So it has pros and cons I guess.

Well ... uh ... not the case for the one I just saw.  People were getting up and leaving.  They tried to get the little kids up front to sing with them, but the kids only knew two (at the most) of the songs.

What a disaster.

I've never seen the movie  ... and can now honestly say ... never WANT to see the movie.  BUT ... lucky us ... a sequel is on the way!

Even had it been a great show (as was Joseph) after sitting through the show ... let me go home with a good memory.  I don't need to hear every song that was just done in the prior two hours.

B-M-D, I think it's been replaced with the "Stuff 'em 'till they're sick" concept. It's derived from that Hollywood notion that says, "If it worked once, it'll work again and again and again and...Disapprove

As far as the Joseph Megamix goes, the whole show is only like an hour and fifteen minutes long, so I think it was invented as a way to stretch it into a reasonable length for your pricey tickets.

It was originally written as a 15-minute show for his son's school and then expanded periodically.
