Hi, I have the following problem: We put up a production at school
which turned out really well and now we have been invited to put
sections of the performance up again in a public venue. The problem
though is that the stage is 3.5 times larger than our own. Ours is
about 20' across while the upcoming one is 67.5' across.
The set pieces we used looked alright at school but I think that if we
use the exact same set pieces for the new venue visually they would
look 'small.'
Any suggestions to overcome this problem? I don't think I have enough
funds or time to rebuild the set though it is already very mobile.

If the new venue has a grand drape, simply pull the curtains close to the edge of your set.

Would it still be ok if the drape only covers the sides but not the top?

I've seen very few sets that actually reach the borders. As long as you have a horizontal piece along the top of your set (trim, border, etc.), the eye should not continue to travel up. You could also control this with lights ... keep the lights focused on the set and actors, not the unused area above or to the sides.
