Our theatre occassionally uses kids in productions, but we are definitely adult theatre.  However, I wanted something attention grabbing for our holiday show, but not the usual stale stuff that's trotted out every year (after all, here in San Diego, every theatre has to compete with the Old Globe's "How the Grinch Stole Christmas").  So I ordered "A Christmas Story", and collaborated with a director friend on how to perform it simply (it also has to be done between regularly scheduled shows - so basically on an empty stage).  We're going to do it as a staged reading in radio broadcast style - all adults and with a Power Point type slide presentation which will run along with the reading and help convey the important visual aspects of the show. 

   The audience loved it and the large number of kids in the cast packed the theatre.  I will say this however...it is a very complicated show from the technical point of view.  Get a good tech director and you will have a blast.
