Our play reading committee is considering Busybody for
next year. We all love the play and wonder if it could be done with out the English (British) dialect. It is very British and our
audience consists of primarly senior citizens so I am worried that they would have a
hard time with the English accent (without closed captioning). We read that some theatre in Toledo is doing the "Americanized version" and I wonder if that is something they did on their own or if it has to come from the publisher that way. If it doesn't come that way from the publisher, would we need permission to change it slightly? Would it be as funny Americanized? Has anyone done this play? Thanks in advance. Being an ‘Old Pohmy barsteward’ why would you need to Americanise it? I have never seen this play, but it seems it has also been done successfully in Texas & other states. I doubt ‘SF’ would allow any changes to any of the black bits! Me thinks Toledo modified it them selves. You all obviously understand the dialogue/dialect, so using your own accents, why wouldn’t your punters?  ------------- Joe Western Gondawandaland turn right @ Perth. Hear the light & see the sound.
