I'll be directing Rounding Third at my ct this summer and possibly taking a cutting of it to a drama festival.  I'm in need of how to do a suggestion of a van that's called for in the script.  We'll need to have a suggestion of the van because there's no way that we can have a real one or even the shell of a real one on our stage.   When used they'll mostly be sitting at the back of the van with the rear doors open.    It's the typical mini-van or Chevy van type.   Here's a link to the synopsis on Dramatic Publishing which also has a link to some production pictures, one or two of which show the van:

I saw "Rounding Third" a couple of years ago. If my memory serves me right all we saw was the rear of the van. I don't remember there being a full van on stage just the doors.

Hey Linda, where did you see it???? We did it last year and we too used just the door section.  We went to our junk yard and cut off the doors and about six inches of van...  It was situated up stage right near the back wall and we then used a little luan and curtains to suggest depth.
It was really pretty well done.. We even hung on to the doors for a while thinking we might take it to state, but that didn't happen.

BMD,
If you do the real van section, I would suggest a Chevy Lumina van, or Pontiac Transport. Their panels are made of plastic. One other suggestion. We had a lady in our group make cars for 'Grease" out of Luan. She did it by projecting a picture onto the sheets, and cutting and painting them that way. I guess it depends on how much of an illusion you're looking for.

I'd rather act, but they found out I can do tech & sets!!

Hi Marty,

I saw "Rounding Third" at the Public Theater in Lewiston, Maine. Some of the pictures on the Dramatist web page are actually from that show.
