We have a relatively small house space and are looking into getting some new seats with arms.  We have two main problems:

1) We have a growing number of "large" patrons
2) The seats need to be easily moved.

We currently use heavy-duty risers (about 3 tiers) and have padded folding chairs that were once donated from the university (probably).  We do NOT do all of our productions "on the stage."  Sometimes we put the set on the back of the wall, and during fantasticks we even did it on a side where we have a walkway.

So, the long rows of movie-theatre style seats are out of the question.  So I am wondering if you had any suggestions for what might work?  I am thinking some kind of stackable arms-rest chairs would be the logical choice, but not sure if there are preferred "theater comfort" style or not.

I am new to this forum (about 10 minutes) but hope to be involved as time goes on.

Any help is appreciated.

My theater uses chairs like this:

We have half with arms and half without, so we alternate them when we set them up. If you need to accomdate a larger patron you can use one of the armless ones and leave some space on either side, or even put two armless ones together. As long as you get some nicely upholstered ones, they are pretty comfortable.

If you can afford it Wenger makes a really nice portable audience chair.  My theatre is planning to replace all our seats (we are a black box theatre) with them as soon as we can afford them.  They are about $220 per chair, but worth it.  They sent us a sample chair and it's great.
