Could we have some sections set up dedicated to self promotion?  Perhaps organized based on state or region?

Good idea!  One of the CT's I belong to has its members always sending out emails with the header 'Shamless Self Promotion' when they are involved in productions with other CT's.

I agree - great idea. When we travel we will know what is going on where and we can support each others shows!

I'm not entirely opposed to it but I wouldn't want this to become just a forum for that.   Maybe if there were a designated "self promotion" area or category.  I'd be curious to hear Mike Polo's thoughts about it.

Guys, there are some weeks when it's hard enough to separate the wheat from the chaff, courtesy of the various noxious forms of spammers out there. It ain't a bad idea, but I would think the ground rules would have to be fairly tight. I might also look for someone to help moderate that section. Lemme think about it and talk it over with the boss. In the meantime, I'll sit back and let you guys discuss... maybe come up with some rules for posting or a more narrowly focused concept.

As a newly elected board member to our state theater organization, the Ohio Community Theater Association (OCTA), I think an area where regional festivals and such could be listed would be a great idea.

Suggestion:

Have "Self Promotion" be a catagory (ex: Producing Theater)

Have each US territory listed as board sections (ex: Other Topics)
-New England, Mid Atlantic, South Eastern...

I volunteer to monitor it and remove any spam.  Although I don't think there would be much, as it would all be contained in one place.

I already answered the first posting of this, but I have another 2 cents to add. I still think it is a wonderful idea, but agree it should be monitered to handle the spam. I like the regions being listed, but it also needs to be more specific to what town, state. Otherwise it would be a little difficult to know where you are going if you were inclined to travel to see a show. I think this will be a great way to get better acquainted with the other forum members who live close. I think the postings should include the name of the show, maybe a brief synopsis, the venue & dates, the town & state, and how the person posting is involved with the show. Could someone come up with a "form" to fill out, like on the polls page? That way all the info needed would be listed right there.

Unless there are actual "sub folders", I would suggest that the titles be something like "Ohio - Scrooge!" to first alert you that it MIGHT be nearby and then as to what the show is.. If your in Florida, you probably don't care what we are doing in Ohio, and if you are in Ohio, but hate scrooge, you probably don't want to bother opening that post either....

Oh and did I mention, Scrooge!, the musical opens November 30th and runs through December 16th at the Fort Findlay Playhouse in Findlay, Ohio...?????????

Ahhhh don't you just love shameless self promotion..
