I don't know if any of you remember me talking about a production of Steel Magnolias I directed this past April? Well the other evening we just had our local theatre awards banquet. Sixteen theatres represented. I won an Award of Merit for my set design!! How fun is that? Also my cast won an Award of Merit for Ensemble and one actress won an Award of Excellence! Then if that wasn't enough I was the AD for A Piece of My Heart and the cast won an Award of Excellence for Ensemble, one cast member won an Award Of Excellence, 3 cast memebers won an Award of Merit and the sound designer won an Award of Merit. I am soo proud of everyone!!!! Awards aren't why I do it but it IS nice to be recognized by your peers.

Ripah tune Slickster yabewdy!
Milk it now in the your local news rag!
I never bothered to get a copy of the gongs I got years ago. I only
wish I had kept at least a picture - cause when you get to my age, they
make for a nice ornament or door stop in the toilet, even just to hang
on the wall!
Anyway the details always look good in your cv!

Hey, slicksister, is there a way to see a photo of your set design for SM?

Hey Kathy thanks for asking but alas, as of yet I have no photos. I have it on film but not yet developed. I wish I had a digital camera. It was a thrust stage so I really only had the back wall to work with. I think what won it was the floor! The set was in yellows and blue (with a few splashes of pink) with white trim. I painted to floor blue then masked it off in 12" squares, sponged on grey and then did a darker blue wash over that. Then we peeled up the tape. Voila! Tile floor. Peeling up the tape was the hardest part. We did a line run thru one night and just sat around peeling tape as we did lines. Anyhow, the floor was amahzing(to quote Seth Rudetsky) if I do say so myself. Thanks for all the nice words everyone. I have been designing my own sets for my shows for many years and this was one of my favorites.

Masking tape can be a pain on the stage deck, especially if walked on.
Just a thought, I use the Scotch Brand Painters Blue edging masking
tape. While it costs a wee bit more, but it saves a heap of time
removing, it won?t pull or pluck up the paint under neath, or bleed
paint from the edges.
Your Set sounds fantastic!
